NEW YORK, May 1, 2013 – Neuberger Berman Group LLC (“Neuberger Berman”), one of the world’s leading employee-controlled money managers, today announced it has hired 22 emerging markets debt (EMD) investment professionals, 19 of whom have joined the firm from ING Investment Management, where they managed over US$16 billion in EMD assets. The new platform’s capabilities span hard and local currency mandates, as well as EMD corporate bond and dedicated Asian debt strategies. The investment staff of 12 portfolio managers, six credit analysts and four economists and strategists will operate from offices in the US, Europe and Asia, providing dedicated regional expertise and around-the-clock market coverage.

“These experienced portfolio managers have a long and successful history of delivering performance for clients,” said George Walker, CEO of Neuberger Berman. “We are excited that world-class investment professionals continue to choose Neuberger Berman and we look forward to partnering with clients in emerging markets debt.”

Neuberger Berman manages US$216 billion in assets, including US$97 billion in fixed income assets (as of March 31, 2013). The new emerging markets debt team joins a fixed income platform with over 100 investment professionals led by Brad Tank, Chief Investment Officer of Fixed Income. Tank believes “this team is an important addition to our fixed income platform, as it enables us to meet the needs of clients who increasingly seek exposure to emerging markets debt within multi-asset class portfolios.”

Neuberger Berman’s emerging markets debt platform will be led by Rob Drijkoningen, based in The Hague, and Gorky Urquieta, based in Atlanta, with 23 and 19 years of industry experience, respectively. Among others joining the firm are five lead portfolio managers: Bart van der Made (The Hague), hard currency; Raoul Luttik (The Hague), local currency; Jennifer Gorgoll (Atlanta) and Nish Popat (The Hague), corporate bonds; and Prashant Singh (Singapore), Asia local bond portfolios. The portfolio managers have an average of 16 years of industry experience.

“We are delighted these well regarded professionals have chosen Neuberger Berman and I am confident that they will enhance our culture of fundamental investing and partnering with clients,” said Joseph Amato, President of Neuberger Berman.

The emerging markets debt total market size is estimated to be US$11 trillion, with US$3 trillion being investable bonds.
